History

An Old World Tradition in the New World, kept alive; that is what Caputo’s Pastry Shoppe has accomplished since the original owner Joseph Caputo migrated from Bari, Italy to Brooklyn, New York in 1923 and opened his original bakery at 201 Wilson Ave. After 27 years in Brooklyn, Joseph Caputo moved his family to Oceanport New Jersey and opened his bakery at 31 S. Broadway, in Long Branch, NJ on June 5th 1960. Jack Caputo, the oldest son of Joseph Caputo, took over the bakery in 1981. Because the area was being redeveloped, Jack Caputo was forced to relocate the bakery and built a strip mall known today as Ursula Plaza on Ocean Blvd., in Long Branch, which has been the home of Caputo’s Pastry Shoppe since 1988. The bakery was turned over to Jack’s son, Joseph, several years ago. Joseph is now the fifth generation to operate the bakery. You can still find Jack there on weekends and holidays helping his son Joseph.

Joseph, like his father and grandfather has carried out the art of old world baking. At Caputo’s all products are made from scratch on premises. You will enjoy the aroma of their many products as you walk into the store. Caputo’s specializes in fine Italian Pastries, especially their sfogiatella, which are still made by hand. And yes, you can still enjoy a delicious cannoli, pasticotti, cream puff, or ├ęclair. A large variety of other custom pastries, cookies, pies, cakes including old fashioned rum cake, breads and rolls are made on site. So, if you are looking to make that special occasion or holiday a success, than Caputo’s Pastry Shoppe is where to go! Caputo’s - where quality and tradition still exists.
